Zahava

Dancer and Shaman

What started as twenty-five years of professional ballet, modern, contact improv, West African, Middle Eastern and Sufi dance became a path of moving the body, mind, and soul consciously in space, relationship, and tribe. While training as a Sexual Shaman with Kenneth Ray Stubbs she learned dance had become her access to expanded states of consciousness and connection with source. And that dance includes stillness. Zahava is a certified Pilates instructor, Anusara Yoga teacher for prenatal/postnatal and delivery of a new soul into a body. She has explored the Chakra system with Anodea Judith, Feldenkrais with Barbara Forbes, ideokinesis with Andre Bernard, the art of intimacy with Sheri Winston, the pelvic floor with VirginaReath, Marshal Rosenbergís Non-Violent Communication, Re-Evaluation Counseling, Dancemeditation with Dunya, and years of training and friendships with tantricas and sensual shamans.

She has performed on BET, at the Kennedy Center, Joe's Pub, the Blue Note, Jacob's Pillow, Dance Place, Senegalese rooftops, in schools, gardens, temples, and bedrooms. She has had the honor of collaborating with master percussionist and griot, David Pleasant, the Joffrey Ballet, Tania Isaac, and Urban Bush Women. Katherine Dunham selected her to perform in celebration of her 93rd birthday sharing the program with Ron Brown and Harry Belafonte. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College with a major in dance, race relations, and community transformation, she also trained at the Juilliard School, Tisch School of the Arts, North Carolina School of the Arts, the Alvin Ailey School, and the Princeton Ballet. She co-founded White Folks Soul, By Any Dance Necessary, a dance collective exploring the incompatibility of wholeness and the race construct for white people. Her clients and students travel internationally for her transformational work including monks, Broadway dance captains, naturopathic doctors, yoga teachers, dance and theatre companies, activists, diversity trainers, shamans, sex workers, grandparents and courageous creative fun loving sexy souls.
